Samosas are most famous snack in Pakistan and India. It is great street snack, can find anywhere with various variety of filling. Samosas are specialty of Ramadan. It is a traditional treat and great tea time snack. In this samosa you won’t need any sort of dip because it has its own delicious taste in it. Most famous snack in Pakistan  A samosa or samoosa is a fried or baked pastry with a savory filling, such as spiced potatoes, onions, peas, lentils, ground lamb, ground beef or ground chicken. The size, shape and consistency may vary, but typically, they are distinctly triangular. Samosas are often accompanied by chutney. They are a popular appetizer or snack in South Asia includes Pakistan, Southeast Asia, Central Asia and Southwest Asia, the Arabian Peninsula, the Mediterranean, the Horn of Africa, North Africa and South Africa.

Samosa is a favorite tea time snack :
In Pakistan, samosas of Karachi are famous for their spicy flavor, whereas samosas from Faisalabad are noted for being unusually large. The samosas are eaten with various accompaniments such as mint chutney, tamarind, plum or tomato chutney, yogurt and a side portion of onion salad. Another distinct variety of samosa available in Karachi is called kaghazi samosa (or paper samosa in English) due to its thin and crispy covering which resembles a wonton or spring roll wrapper. The filling is usually made up of mixed vegetables or minced meat. Both versions are very popular. Another variant, popular in eastern Punjab, consists of samosas with side dishes of mashed, spiced chickpeas, onion and coriander salad, as well as various chutneys to top the samosas. The samosas are fried or baked pastry with a savory filling, such as spiced potatoes, onions, peas, lentils, ground lamb, ground beef or ground chicken. A sweet variety of samosa is also popular in the country. This sweet samosa is filled with a combination of sugar, dried fruits, nuts and sometimes anise seeds. These samosas were a traditional gift sent to people to congratulate them on births, weddings etc. Samosa is a favorite tea time snack and very popular throughout India. The filling in samosas are generally of mixture of boiled potatoes, onion, green peas, green chilli and other spices. Although you can substitute any of them with your choice. It tastes awesome when served hot with mint/coriander chutney or ketchup.

The tart sweetness of fresh pomegranate, the simplicity of cottage cheese and the distinctive depth of saffron. Great served at parties or savoured with your afternoon chai, these are busting with flavor, even without any dip or sauce!

Ingredients
  • Soft cottage cheese, salted 1 cup
  • Pomegranate 1/2 cup
  • Green chillis, chopped 2-4
  • Dry roasted whole cumin seeds 1 tsp
  • Chopped coriander 1 tbsp
  • Saffron pinch
  • Sea salt flakes
  • Samosa pastry leaves cut  into half, 12
  • Black poppy seeds 1 tbsp
  • Butter, softened 1 tbsp
  • Oil 1/4 cup
Method

1. Heat oven to 200o C.
2. Prepare the mixture by combining all the filling ingredients in a bowl.
3. Melt the butter. Place a sheet of samosa pastry and using a basting brush, brush the pastry with a small amount of melted butter on both sides. Place 1 tsp of the filling on one side of the pastry and fold to the opposite to make a triangle. Continue by folding to opposite sides until the end. Seal end to close the samosas. Place on a baking try covered with a baking paper sheet. Repeat with all samosas.
4. Sprinkle poppy seeds and salt on top of samosas and bake for 10-12 minutes until light brown. If you wish to deep dry you can sprinkle the topping after frying.
5. Enjoy hot!
